Dial-a-Cab to close unless a merger can be agreed

It's a sad day when anybody within the taxi trade is forced to cease trading, but when it is one of the mainstays of the London taxi industry for over 60 years then this holds special significance.
Dial-a-Cab who were formed in 1953 and have around 1,500 taxi drivers on their books, have become the latest victims to fall victim to the changing economy within the the industry.
In an email to drivers on the circuit Dial-A-Cab chairman, Brian Rice said:
“As you know Dial-A-Cab has been loss making for some time. The cash reserves that we have built up in the good times have helped sustain us while we have looked at the alternatives for the business. While efforts to secure a sale or merger of the business are ongoing and we are in ongoing discussions with a potential merger partner, we have concluded that the time has come when we need to draw a line in the sand. The board has therefore made the decision that we will close the business unless an alternative can be found in the near future.
“The consequence of closing the business would be that all of our staff would be at risk of redundancy. Any redundancy process would take 6 to 8 weeks to conclude and we have therefore concluded that we need to start that process now so that it can be concluded as soon as possible should an alternative not be secured in the meantime.
“As discussions over an alternative to closing the business down are ongoing, I would ask that you continue to work as normal as that is the best way in which you can support a sale/merger. Our cash reserves mean that you will continue to be paid as normal for work completed and in the event of closure your roller bond will still be returned to you.
“You will be updated further as soon as there is nore information that we can provide to you.”
Whilst Brian Rice's statement shows that the board are still looking for ways to keep the company afloat, the signs are very worrying to those working directly for Dial-a-Cab and the London taxi industry in general.

Mercedes Finds An Outlet For Unsold Taxis With Ride Share App.
In recent years, we have seen many big-name vehicle manufacturers trying their hand at the private-hire market, coming up with all sorts of ideas on how they can get a slice of the ride-hailing and ride-sharing economy.
Whilst Uber are waiting to hear from. The court about their licence renewal appeal, Mercedes believe they have found a gap in the London market.
Not a great surprise really, as they needed an outlet for the vehicles designed to be London Taxis, now that the Taxi trade can no longer licence any new vehicle other than an electric vehicle.
Regulation Out The Window At TfL.
It seems the regulation that stop purpose built Taxis being used by Private Hire companies, is another regulation swept under the carpet under the watchful gaze of Mike Brown's TfLTPH.
The German car-makers have this week announced that they are introducing an on-demand ridesharing Vito's boasting a strong demand in London for ride-sharing solutions.
ViaVan is the name of this new service; a joint venture between Mercedes and American ridesharing service; Via. Together, the businesses will allow commuters of Zones 1 and 2 to access vans with vacant seats in real-time, allowing them to jump in and share ride fairs with those heading in the same direction as them.
Having already tested the model in Amsterdam, they say they will be excelling where Uber very much fell flat. This venture is centred on safety and reliability, with ViaVan offering the residents and visitors of the capital city an honest, easy way to travel. Doesn't mean diddley squat as customer who use Uber don't give a fig about safety or reliability....they just want cheap!
In a statement to the press, Chris Snyder CEO of ViaVan said:
“Our mission is to power truly dynamic mass transit systems, which reduce congestion in our cities while offering drivers the opportunity to earn a decent living.# “We are delighted to launch in London and finally give Londoners an alternative to expensive and inefficient private car services.”
Same Old Workforce, Still A Danger To The Public
Unfortunately for unsuspecting Londoners and Visitors alike, they will be drawing on the same work force that Uber have exploited and let's not forget that 13,000 of this workforce have acquired their PH licence using fake Criminal Record Check DBS certificates plus many have fake medical.
Last year custom rape from this workforce rose by 50% to over one a week with sexual assaults rising to almost one a day.
London is to be flooded with new ride share apps in the wake of a Uber licence renewal knock back and TfL are still dishing out operator and driver licenses like sweeties to kids, (trying to make a dent in the forecast £1b deficit for the next financial year). Over. Recent years, we've seen a dramatic escalation in road traffic collisions where these untrained drivers take their eyes off the road and smash into other vehicles. People have died and the blood is on the hands of the directors at TfL who have shirked all responsibility once they've taken the cash.
Gone out the window are the days when public safety was paramount.

Advice ahead of four-day DLR strike starting this Friday in London
via taxi-point https://ift.tt/2qDRmKV

Transport for London (TfL) is advising customers using the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) that further planned strike action by the RMT union will affect services over a four day period starting this Friday. The strike is due to start at 04.00 on Friday 20 April and end at 03.59 on Tuesday 24 April. It has been called by the RMT over a dispute with KeolisAmey Docklands, who operate the DLR on behalf of TfL.Plans are being developed with the aim of operating a limited service over the four days, which coincide with the London Marathon on Sunday 22 April. Where possible, depending on staff numbers, limited services will be prioritised to enable participants in the London Marathon to travel to ExCeL to register ahead of the event, and for runners and their supporters to reach the race line in Greenwich and on the Isle of Dogs on Sunday. However, customers are advised to check the TfL website for the latest information and to plan ahead, looking at alternative options for their journeys.Extra bus services will be deployed along the DLR network over the four days and TfL Travel Ambassadors will be on hand to provide travel information and advice to customers. All other TfL services will be operating as usual, however there will be road closures around the London Marathon route from early Sunday morning. The Jubilee, Central, District and Hammersmith & City lines in East London are expected to be busier than usual and stations including Canary Wharf, Canada Water, London Bridge, Canning Town, Bank and Stratford may be exceptionally busy. Customers are advised to check before they travel and allow extra time for their journeys.Further information on what services may operate will be communicated ahead of the strike and posters, digital boards and announcements in London Underground and London Overground stations will keep customers informed of the levels of service.Mark Davis, TfL's Interim General Manager of the DLR, said: "Millions of pounds are raised for charity at the London Marathon and we don't want to see the thousands of people who have signed up to run, or their supporters, disrupted. We urge RMT and KeolisAmey Docklands to continue with discussions to settle their dispute. If this strike goes ahead, we will work hard to provide as much of a service as possible over the four days with a particular aim of helping runners and supporters get to the starting line on Sunday. Bus, Tube and rail services will operate as normal and we will have extra buses running along the DLR route. Customers are advised to check before they travel and allow extra time to make their journeys, while our Travel Ambassadors will be on hand to provide information and advice and help keep London moving."
