Uber driver armed with samurai sword believed Queen was “an enemy of Allah”

via taxi-point https://ift.tt/2M62YPS
A driver on the controversial minicab app Uber appeared at the Old Bailey this week accused of being armed with a samurai sword outside Buckingham Palace believing the Queen was "an enemy of Allah".The Uber driver, Mohiussunnath Chowdhury, manoeuvred his vehicle outside the iconic Royal residence next to a police van. It is said that he then pulled a four-foot sword from the footwell of the Toyota Prius he was driving.Prosecutor in the trial Timothy Kray QC told the court Mr Chowdhury had left behind a suicide note for his sister detailing the motives behind the planned attack. The note read “Tell everyone that I love them and they should struggle against the enemies of Allah with their lives and their property."The Queen and her soldiers will all be in the hellfire. "They go to war with Muslims around the world and kill them without any mercy. "They are the enemies that Allah tells us to fight."Mr Kray went on to say Mr Chowdhury had purchased a sword sharpener earlier that same day. However Mr Chowdhury now claims that he didn’t plan to injure anyone and only intended to get himself killed. Police officers at the scene were said to have thought Mr Chowdhury was drunk when he first pulled up in front of their van. However, that soon changed when Mr Chowdhury exited the vehicle with a sword and began shouting ‘Allahu Akbar' the court heard. The Uber driver from Luton denies engaging in conduct in preparation of an act of terrorism and the trial continues.

Could a clear tint be the answer in protecting yourself against moped attackers

via taxi-point https://ift.tt/2K1ZBJn
With moped mugging on the increase in London, taxi drivers have never been in a more vulnerable position. The damage that these attacks cause can run into hundreds of pounds, as well as leaving the driver wide open to physical assault once a window has been shattered. As a result of the proliferation of these attacks, TaxiPoint decided to investigate the best way forward as to how drivers may be able to protect themselves. We contacted a company called Eurotint, based in White City, to find out if there was a way of stopping a window from imploding after being attacked with an object. After discussing the requirements needed for a taxi, the consultant at Eurotint suggested that a clear tint may be the way forward. This option may afford a driver some protection against attack, it would not stop the glass from shattering, but it may take several attempts for a would-be attacker to get through the glass, giving the driver enough time to take evasive action, as well as potentially protecting a driver from injury.
The cost for applying the clear tint to the front two windows would be approxinately £150. It is worth remembering there are also many good retailers out their so worth shopping around.
A spokesperson at Transport for London told TaxiPoint: "Anything that protects the safety of drivers without impeding their vision and therefore the safety of their driving, would be welcomed by TfL, providing the manufacturer says it is safe to install on the specific vehicles."
