Two Taxi drivers from Grimsby become national icon's following England's first game victory

via taxi-point https://ift.tt/2twxHhg
Two taxi drivers from Grimsby captured the passion and relief of the nation this week after their celebration of England's winner against Tunisia went viral on social media. Die-hard England fans Steve Nottingham and Glen Jagger, who have not missed an England match in 22 years, were snapped embracing Harry Kane's winning header on Monday night, sporting a huge three lions tattoo on one of their backs. Super fan Steve Nottingham went to his first ever England game back in 1972 on a school trip to Wembley and hasn't missed a match since 1996, traveling around a total of 64 different countries.

Steve told the Grimsby Telegraph that he has to manage all his taxi shifts around when and where England are playing and has to be on the ball when it comes to booking reasonably priced flights and accommodation. Steve has "jokingly" said that if England win the World Cup he will retire from going to the matches. We wait in hope.

Addison Lee employment appeal tribunal against workers’ rights entitlement heard

via taxi-point https://ift.tt/2K9rEXa
An appeal from Addison Lee was heard yesterday in an Employment Appeal Tribunal against the ruling last September that Addison Lee’s drivers where to be classified as workers. In a landmark case last September, an employment tribunal ruled that a group of Addison Lee drivers were not self-employed, as the company had argued. It instead ruled that the drivers were workers who are entitled to essential workers’ rights, including to be paid the National Minimum Wage, receive holiday pay and not have their contracts terminated because they are members of a trade union.Addison Lee has appealed the ruling on 11 grounds, which are wide ranging and challenge most aspects of the employment tribunal's 25 September 2017 decision, including:· The tribunal was wrong to imply a separate agreement obliging drivers to work, in addition to the standard contracts which the drivers signed with Addison Lee;· The tribunal was inconsistent in finding that an obligation to work existed when the drivers' contracts stated there was no obligation to work;· The tribunal failed to establish that drivers worked predominantly for Addison Lee rather than for the customer; · The tribunal was wrong to say that time logged on was working time; and· The tribunal failed generally to provide adequate reasons for its conclusions that the drivers were workers rather than independent contractors.Steve Garelick, GMB Regional Officer said:“One would hope after the high level of employment tribunal victories centring around precarious, gig and bogus self-employment that companies, apps and investors would have learned by now. However, it seems they are all keen to spend money on lawyers to stave off the inevitable costs that would damage their business models and what looks like tremendous returns that in effect are funded by worker and taxpayer alike.“We have seen further examples of workers treated as expendable on transport applications, care homes, and warehouses, in what has been claimed as high employment.“Anyone in government can claim high employment when the truth is varnished over.“Following the landmark case against Uber where Tom Linden QC championed GMB Union’s view on worker rights, many cases have followed.”

It was on this Facebook page that Mr Wheeler, and his colleague, senior traffic council officer Stephen Rimmer, were the victims of abuse and derogatory comments.Mr Gerard had claimed that Mr Wheelers nickname was "Dick" and that he meant to refer to Mr Rimmer as a twit rather than a twat, claiming predictive text was to blame for altering the spelling on another post. These claims were dismissed by Judge KnightJudge Knight summed up by stating that Mr Wheelers ability to perform his duty has been undermined by Mr Gerrard's social media posts through misinformation, as well as other individuals unleashing vitriol due to getting the wrong end of the stick.Judge Knight stated that she would give Mr Gerard the benefit of the doubt given that he believed the site was a closed group.Mr Gerard received a week long suspension, this falls on the back of two other drivers being suspended for a month for a similar offence.

Private Hire driver has licence revoked for licking the face of female passenger

via taxi-point https://ift.tt/2ytr4lV
A private hire driver from Birmingham has had his licence revoked after reports were made to West Midlands Police of a sexual assault on a female passenger. The unnamed driver has been accused of grabbing the woman by her scarf in an attempt to "stick his tongue down her throat". The female passenger managed to pull back but the driver dragged her closer and tried to kiss her again but was unable to, so instead he licked her face. Following the reports, licensing officials tracked down the driver at his home and informed him that his licence was being revoked. According to a report in the Birmingham Mail, the driver has since appealed to magistrates against the revocation.
