A new taxi-hailing app has hit the streets of Devon, as hackney carriage drivers looks to compete with heavily financially backed ride-sharing service Uber.
Instataxi will allow you to order a hackney carriage fully licensed vehicle to pick you up from any location around town and if you wish, pay for the trip on account using your card. Functions of the app include telling you where the nearest taxi is, how many are available, how much the journey is likely to cost and how near your ordered taxi is to picking you up. The app which is owned by local business man Adrian Emery and developed by an American tech firm, was launched around six weeks ago in Emery’s home town of IIfracombe and has now been expanded to Barnstaple. Emery plans to grow the app across the whole of south west England where Uber have yet to gain a foothold. Emery told the DevonLive, that London’s hackney carriage drivers have been effected bad by app’s such as Uber, and he hopes his new service will help boost drivers in the south west. Instataxi joins MyTaxi, TaxiApp, Gett and Uber, in a long list of taxi/ride-haling apps which operate across the UK.
